Why is Caliber no longer
publishing?
With the market conditions hitting an all time low, the time and
energy needed to survive in the comics market was just too much and the
publisher, Gary Reed, had
enough of the tough economic times, especially with the lawsuits and
money-draining situation with the printers of the Power Cardz game.
Although Caliber won the lawsuit, the printer was bankrupt by that time and so
the Power Cardz game ended up being a enormous burden with both time and money.
Other factors, especially those dealing with the comics market also came into
play.
What happened to all the
Caliber titles?
Most of the titles were owned by the creators so they either ceased working on
the titles or moved them to other publishers. For a list of some of the
titles that moved on, check out
TITLES MOVING ON
to see where some of them ended up. On the titles that Caliber or the
publisher owned, many of them are being relaunched or reprinted at different
publishers.
Are there any back
issues available?
Very few. There may be a listing of what little remains in the near future
but most of the issues were shipped to the creators. The bulk of the
remaining stock was sent to an online retailer to make them available for sale
but in three years, the titles have never been listed and there is no recourse
to force them to do so. By the end of 2006, there will be over 300 issues
available as downloadable PDF and most of the titles will be available for
$1.99, which is sometimes half the cover price. The downloadable comics
are available from
DriveThruComics.com.
Is Caliber taking submissions?
Caliber is NOT accepting submissions at this time. They are not publishing.
Is there any plans for
Caliber to resume publishing?
As of right now, no. Many of the properties have found new
homes and the former publisher is staying busy with his freelance writing and
other career paths but he is involved in some other publishing ventures but
primarily as a consultant.
How do I get in contact
with someone at Caliber? Who do I contact for potential film or publishing
rights?
Send an email to calcomic@aol.com and it
will be forwarded to the proper party.
