CALIBER COMICS                MAGUS LETTERS

Paul Dale Roberts

I’m a happy man today. Got to read Magus #1 and The Harvest King #3 tonight. Love my Caliber titles! Anyway, let’s talk about Magus. As wars are fought to decide what is the true religion, this happens now, as we speak. For example, the Irish Republican Army vs. the English. Protestant vs. Catholic idealism. Other people are fighting for the one true religion all over the world. If they don’t fight, then they push their ideas upon you. You can find that anywhere you go. I see Mormons on their bikes, dressed up in their suits and chasing down joggers to tell them the word of God. Hare Krishnas handing out flowers at the airports. Jehovah Witnesses and Watch Tower followers knocking at your door. It’s a crazy world and this story brings it into focus.
As the master teaches that there is no master, he contradicts himself. The confrontation with Magus was a real nail-biter, as I wanted to know what would happen next. I also believe that fiction can sometimes strike truth deeper than philosophy or religion. Fiction comes from our minds and set on paper or on our computers and related back to the world. We are uncovering the deep secrets of our minds that have been passed on by our ancestors. Fiction is showing a possible future, a possible present day or a possible past, things that don’t exist, but could exist. Fiction sits on a foundation of possible truth. As it was mentioned that love doesn’t conquer all, but death does. I have to agree on that one, too. Death is inevitable, we cannot hide from death, but we can hide from love. Then it was mentioned that memories are nothing more than electrical impulses that leave the body. Yes, I believe this to be true. As all living things have an electrical aura that surrounds them. Our brain creates electrical impulses and what we call brain waves. When these electrical impulses (or aura) leaves our deceased body, it is referred to as a soul. Energy cannot be destroyed and continues to live on. We seek immortality, but immortality is within the souls of all of us. I was talking via email to a rocket scientist and he told me that when we Xerox (make copies) of documents on our copier machines, that the light transfer of the document to the copy continues to exist, for light cannot be destroyed, but is a form of energy that is carrying the image of the document as it travels into space. Our email communication, our telephone conversations, TV images, radio communications all exist and will continue to exist forever. So, whatever electrical impulses a living human being or even an animal produces will continue to live on. Wow! I’m really getting carried away tonight, see what Caliber Comics does to me, makes me think of all kinds of things.
Let’s get back to the story. Lilith must have been really going through a mental ordeal as she sees Magus being tormented by his captors. I couldn’t help but feel for her. Magus being the most powerful Mage on all planes and had hopes of creating his own religion, seemed so helpless. It’s amazing how Lilith is able to gather other peoples’ memories. She is sort of like a conduit for other peoples’ memories. I know she has her own memories, for she exists and whatever she sees is a memory for her.
Beezlebub, Lord of the Flies, is evil incarnate and what trickery did he use to convince Magus to accept mimmortality, for him to lose his daughter so she can be Beezlebub’s bride? Horrors upon horrors. Thank you for the explanation on Beezlebub that was very informative. Highly enjoyed my first issue and looking forward to more!! You guys kick butt! Standing ovation to Gary Reed, Craig Brasfield, Gary Skehan and Larry Shuput for putting out a high quality comic book!
