Legendlore Letters

"I had to order Legendlore #1 sight unseen out of Previews because the market isn't great up here and most stores won't try any new titles unless someone asks for it. So you can imagine how happy I was to receive such a great comic. Believe me when I tell you that it doesn't always work out that way!... I ordered this comic because I like fantasy stories and because the main character is a woman. I want to thank you for creating a strong female character... This title is going to be put on my subscription and I promise to write you another letter when we reach issue #100. That's motivation for you!!!"

"Legendlore is one of the best fantasy comics out on the market. I can't wait for the new story arc. I like Legendlore so much that I am putting in an order for The Realm series...I just wanted to keep the praise coming and to let you know that I'll always be a fan...With Legendlore, Poison Elves, and Age of Heroes around, the fantasy genre should take off like a rocket. I hope other publishers see that fans want these types of stories, so that more great fantasy stories will come about."

"I like the variety of characters. I think issue #4 has a good balance of sub-plots, and jumping back and forth to them, and a main story that dominates the rest. Some things I noticed that I liked: the use of Silverfawn as a driven, remorseless killer; the young boy Finn (isn't he taken from Scottish legend about a great warrior named Fin Mac Cool or something?); and the variety of cultures within Elvenkind such as the differences you showed between the forest and desert elf societal mores. I think you've built a diverse, interesting world here."

"First off, let me thank you for doing a fantasy comic right. I'm tired of these cutesy fantasy comics where no one dies. Either that or the barbarian comics where it's all slash and gore with no story. While not being a Tolkien fan, I became more interested in fantasy with the Narnia Tales and then set my standard with the Weiss and Hickman Dragonlance Tales. Since the beginning of the series I have enjoyed your story but found Philip's artwork to be lacking. Well, after issue four, color me wrong. It looks like he got things together. The detail he was using in the panels was astounding. In one panel, I actually noticed Silverfawn sweating...I do like Dominic, the troubled killer with a conscience, and Jhezail, who seems to be a wild card. I look forward to further stories in this land and introductions to more denizens; perhaps a few Dwarves, Trolls, maybe a Dragon or two (always a good fantasy device)."

"Thanks for Legendlore. It's the comic I have been searching for since DC/TSR titles disappeared without a trace. It's great to see a fantasy comic with great art, and a damn good story. The narrative really gives me a feeling somewhat like I get when I re-read Tolkien's Lord of the Rings (my all-time fave books)."

"Well, you finally succeeded where many others have failed. You have crafted a story which forces me to write a 'fan' letter! I have been reading and collecting comics for over 20 years now, and have read many great stories during that time, but have never felt led to write in with my opinion about any of them...until now...it just keeps getting better! You are creating a memorable tale, with breathtaking art, a solid storyline and great character development. Dominic's guilt over the killing of Darnic; Raith's not-so-subtle attempt to influence (control?) Finn; the continuous evil actions of the Fahadin; and of course, the ongoing efforts of Silverfawn as she strives to put her son's death behind her - this is great stuff, guys!"

"How would I describe Legendlore: The Realm Wars #1? Hmmm....The Hobbit meets Dune? I don't know. It's indescribable...Good work, Joe! Lots of suspense as I sat here and prepared for the war in A'zoth. We're not talking about a minor skirmish, this seems to be an all-out war. The mystique of this comic is overwhelming, I love the castles in the sky. I like Dominic, he's sort of maverick and he dominates the story when he makes his presence known. The warriors depicted in the comic are absolutely great. The interactions between characters was captivating."

"When I visited Ireland this year, I received the magic, legends and myths of the ancient Celtic days and this comic book brought that magic back again. I remember walking through Dublin Castle, Christ Church and St. Patrick's Cathedral and our tour guide was full of stories of the 'little people'. Legendlore would be the kind of comic book for this tour guide...Yes, I love this comic book, it has all the markings of a hit!! The story by Joe Martin was enticing and fascinating and I will definitely be coming back for more!! Major bravo!! You guys hit the jackpot on this one!"

"You guys are doing a wonderful job with Legendlore! I haven't collected comic books since I was a little boy, but I just saw "Spawn" and was inspired to stop at my local book shop, Excaliber. I've read fantasy novels for 25 years but I didn't think I could find a quality fantasy series in a comic. I was so wrong!! I perused the shop for an hour before I stumbled upon your masterpiece series and all I can say is, WOW!! Legendlore has really got my attention...I believe I'm hooked!"
